There's nothing more heart-wrenching for a mother than to hear her daughter begging to die. It's a heartbreaking plea that Marcia Cecilia Ahumada has had to listen to for years.
Marcia has been trying to figure out the mystery illness that has caused her daughter to deteriorate in a state of perpetual discomfort since 2013.
Euthanasia and assisted suicide occurs when health care professionals are legally allowed to end the life of someone who has been living in constant pain and suffering.
Euthanasia is legal in only a handful of countries, and that's because it's such a touchy subject. Some people argue that people should have the choice to die with dignity, while others argue that it's a slippery slope.
Marcia's daughter, 19-year-old Paula Diaz, argues that she has no quality of life. She's in constant pain and is voluntarily asking to be legally administrated a painless drug to end her suffering.
"Everything burns me, not even my mommy can hug me. The rubbing of clothes when they cover me, the clothes themselves, the hair, everything burns me," Paula told local reporters.
"It's not easy for her to live her life," Marcia added. "My daughter demands rest, she asks for an injection to sleep forever."
In a viral YouTube video, the teen lies in her bed in an uncomfortable position, not begging for her life, but for her death.
"I cannot stand to be inside my body anymore," Paula said.
However, there is one thing keeping her alive...
