Man Tries To Kill His Pregnant Wife With An Elaborate Electrical Trap

In what Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly described as one of the most bizarre cases of domestic violence he has ever seen, a Florida man attempted to electrocute his pregnant wife with an elaborately set up booby trap at their front door.

32-year-old Michael Scott Wilson was attempting to kill his 29-year-old pregnant wife, Ashley Lauren Wilson by setting up an electrical booby trap attached to their front door. It was set up so that the moment Ashley would have put her key in the door and grabbed the handle, an electrical circuit would have been completed that would have sent a high voltage charge right through her heart.

Wilson may well have succeeded in killing his wife had he not made several stupid mistakes. First, he told his wife not to let the children touch the door. Ashley then told her step-father about this strange request made by her husband, and it immediately set off red flags.

Ashley and her step-father then went to have a closer look at the house, and they called police when they saw a message scrawled in lipstick across the back door. When investigators made their way to the house they found the front door had been barricaded, and there were burn marks around the handle.

They decided to kick the door in, causing sparks to jump off of it upon contact. What they found astounded them. The trap was made from two chairs, a kid's highchair, a shower rod, tape, electrical wires, and a car battery complete with clamps.

Sheriff Rick Staly said, “not only did this man plan to electrocute his wife, but he could have injured a deputy or any person attempting to enter this residence.”

Wilson had already fled when deputies found his booby trap, and now he was carrying a gun that he had stolen from his wife's step-father. He was eventually found and arrested in Knoxville, Tennessee, where he is now being held in a detention facility. He was officially charged with charged with two counts of attempted aggravated battery on a pregnant person and one count of grand theft of a firearm.

It makes you wonder what was going through his mind?
