A 22-year-old man has been arrested after he showed up at the airport wearing 10 layers of clothes in order to avoid paying a luggage fees.
Ryan Carney Williams, who is professionally known as Ryan Hawaii, showed up to Keflavik International Airport on Jan. 10 wearing 10 shirts and eight pairs of pants, but was denied a boarding pass for his flight home.
Hawaii, who hails from the U.K., said he wore all those layers because he didn't want to pay an extra fee for another suitcase. He claims British Airways refused to let him board due to racial profiling.
" @British_Airways hi being held at Iceland Keflavik airport because I had no baggage put all the clothes on and they still won't let me on. Racial profiling? Or....." Hawaii wrote on Twitter.
According to Daily Mail, Hawaii refused to leave British Airways's check in desk, resulting in a security guard having to be called over.
In a subsequent tweet, Hawaii said he had been arrested and sprayed with mace following the debacle.
I also got arrested and maced too so you guys are really gonna have to sort this one....— Ryan Hawaii (@RYAN_HAWAII) January 10, 2018
Once he was released, Hawaii returned to the airport only to find out he had been banned from his second booked flight.
