While many have condemned Today Show co-host Matt Lauer after a slew of sexual misconduct allegations, others are a little more sympathetic towards his case.

Fox News commentator Geraldo Rivera was a little too sympathetic.

In a tweet, Rivera wrote, "Sad about @MLauer great guy, highly skilled & empathetic w guests & a real gentleman to my family & me. News is a flirty business & it seems like current epidemic of may be criminalizing courtship & conflating it w predation. What about ?"

To follow that tweet, he wrote that sexual harassment "should be confined to situations where superior imposes himself on subordinate who feels unable to complain because of power of perp[etrator] or feared consequences to victim's employment. Shouldn't be used to get even w[ith] bad bosses or hated ex's."

These tweet added fuel to the fire, as many were furious about Rivera defending Lauer. The 74-year-old commentator apologized a day later, but one celebrity demands another one.

Actress-singer Bette Midler also called on Rivera to apologize for an assault she said had occurred 40 years ago.
